Mary Anne Varela-Spooner

Human resources began as a passion when I was serving in the United States Navy as a payroll and personnel support. I thoroughly enjoyed using my skills to provide unique solutions for sailors and their families. I transitioned my military experience into the civilian sector and became adept in all facets of human resources.

With the support of my loving husband and children, I graduated from Virginia Wesleyan University in 2005 with a bachelor’s in liberal arts, magna cum laude, and was inducted into the adult learner honor society, Alpha Sigma Lambda – Delta Kappa chapter, in 2004.

I graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2011 with a master’s in business administration with a focus on organizational and human resources development.

Since 2014, I have maintained a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from HRCI and the Senior Certified Professional from SHRM (SHRM-SCP).

I am a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) certified instructor and use it to support my clients in understanding how to manage differences with their partners and teams.

I have worked with all levels of operational leadership to design, adapt, develop and define the human resources functions for their organizations. I firmly believe that a solid human resources infrastructure provides the foundation necessary for an organizations long-term success.
